3D Verifier Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to trust the Mixamo 3D viewer?

Our plug-in needs your permission to access the graphics card to draw 3D characters and motion you see on Mixamo. All plugins you might have installed on your computer required your permission to run or install the first time like Flash, Quicktime, Silverlight, etc. Instead of requiring a separate download and a file to click and install, we use Java to stream the plug-in to you directly, and ask your permission to run it. We only use these permissions to run and draw 3D in the browser. We install no spyware, adware, or other malware on your computer. If you want more details, please contact us.

Why does the system keeps saying there is a problem with Java?

Ensure you have Java installed:

For Windows

  1. Go to http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1
  2. If it asks you to upgrade Java, please do
  3. Revist http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1 when completed, make sure it has registered the new plugin
  4. Revisit www.mixamo.com and click a motion to restart the compatibility test

For Mac

Apple packages and releases Java on Mac. To ensure you have the most up-to-date version, please:

  1. Click the Apple logo on the top left corner of the screen
  2. Select "Software Update" for the menu
  3. Select and install and Java updates you see pending in that list

If there steps don't resolve your issue, let us know.

I don't see a character on the visual (3D) preview step

You might be experiencing one of the following:

  • Browser crashes on 3D preview
  • The download progress bar pauses / doesn't complete
  • You see a red X error icon on download
  • The 3D area goes blank white/black after some time

These problems are usually caused by one of the following things:

  • The plugin cannot access or download the resources it needs to run
  • There is a proxy server or network incompatibility
  • There is some incompatibility with your graphics card and our 3D code

The easiest way for us to diagnose this problem if for you to send us some log files. They are found in different places for different operating systems.

  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\.animotion\logs
  • Windows Vista/Windows 7: C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\.animotion\logs
  • Mac: In your home directory, find .animotion/logs

Zip up those files and shoot them in an email to support (at) mixamo (dot) com.

Does Mixamo work on Google Chrome?

Our experience is that things work mostly as expected.

To achieve 3D in the browser, Mixamo leverages Sun Microsystem's Java browser plugin technology. According to Sun, Google Chrome isn't officially supported. According to Google, Java should work in Google Chrome.

For the best experience using Mixamo with Google Chrome, we recommend:

  • Ensure you have the latest Google Chrome installed (2.0.172.39 as of this writing)
  • Ensure you have the latest Java plugin installed (version 1.6.0 Update 15 as of this writing)
    • Note: If you have to install or update Java, you must restart Google Chrome for the new Java version to be used.

Specific issues you might see:

  • Google Chrome hangs or becomes unresponsive (usually on compatibility check page)
    • In internal testing, we've been able to hang Google Chrome / Java on the compatibility test page by refreshing multiple times. Once this occurs, you must completely close Google Chrome and reopen it, and navigate back to www.mixamo.com
  • The Mixamo 3D plugin shows a progress bar on each page load
    • Java in Google Chrome doesn't “remember” that it recently ran and therefor has to re-initialize on each page. This initialization is fairly fast and shouldn't hamper your workflow much. This delay isn't present on Firefox or Internet Explorer.
