Hey there! These workflows are old news now; find the most up-to-date tutorials at the Community.

The Complete Mixamo Pipeline

Our pipeline covers the creation of 3D models in Fuse, rigging characters with the Auto-Rigger, applying motions from our Animation Collection, and integration into almost every 3D software and game engine (including 3DS Max, Maya, Unity, Unreal Engine 4, and so much more)!

Starting from Fuse

It all begins in Fuse, our universal character creator. Combine hundreds of body parts, clothing, hair, and accessories and then harness the power of Allegorithmic’s smart textures to create a completely unique character.

Mixamo Workflow

Within Fuse press the Upload button and sign in with your Mixamo account. Your character will be processed, optimized, made game ready and uploaded to your Mixamo account with this simple one-click process.

Mixamo Workflow

Auto-rigging for Fuse characters is completely automated. In less than two minutes you’ll be presented with preview animations and customization options. You can enable facial blendshapes for use with Face Plus and use our Skeleton Level of Detail to change the number of fingers to use, so you’re in control of your character optimization.

Starting from a 3D Model with no Rig

Have your own non-Fuse character you want to upload? No worries! There are no limitations to what you can create but keep in mind that we do require mesh-only models (no NURBs surfaces or fibermesh hair, please).

Mixamo Workflow

Visit us as mixamo.com and select “Rig” from the main menu. Just select the file you want to upload!

Mixamo Workflow

Once your custom character is uploaded use the arrows to make sure your character is facing forward. Mixamo uses a y-axis up environment.

Mixamo Workflow

Drag and drop the marker symbols to the corresponding parts of your character. This helps the auto-rigger fit to your custom body! You can also choose your Skeleton Level of Detail to change the number of fingers to use, so you’re in control of your character optimization.

In less than two minutes you’ll be presented with preview animations and can finalize your rig!

Starting from a Rigged & Skinned Model

Have your own non-Fuse character you’ve already built a rig for, but now you want to animate it? Easy! Mixamo has robust skeleton retargeting! There are no limitations to what you can create but keep in mind that we do require mesh-only models (no NURBs surface or fibermesh hair, please!) and a single heirarchy skeleton where all bones lead to one root bone (usually the hips).

Mixamo Workflow

Visit us as mixamo.com and select “Rig” from the main menu. Just select the file you want to upload!

Mixamo Workflow

To retarget just select a node on the mixamo skeleton (left) and then the corresponding node on your skeleton (right). Matched nodes will be colored in and once you have all the required bones (or additional ones if you want to do a complete mapping for more accuracy) - just hit finish. Voila! Your skeleton is remapped!

In less than two minutes you’ll be presented with preview animations and can finalize your rig!

Animation and Beyond!

After rigging you can utilize our animation collection which contains thousands of animations! At the top of the animation page you’ll be able to select the character you want to use. Then use the search bar and categories to find the perfect animation.

Mixamo Workflow

Each animation on our site is made from several different animations and we call this animation synthesizing. Each animation is different, but common custom sliders include speed, distance, energy, and bounce.

After animating there will be a button where you can download immediately, or you can always access your animations in the “My Purchases” section of the User Menu. Whichever method you use you can choose to download the animation including the mesh or with just the skeleton (this is ideal for engines like Unity and UE4 as you don’t duplicate the existing mesh data!). Format options include .fbx, .dae, and .bvh.

There are no limitations to what you can do with your animations and we have extensive workflows for 3DS Max, Maya, Unity, Unreal Engine, and so much more!
